artist: alp no humans, scenery, indoors, small bathroom, old tiles, small bathtub, shower head, sink, mirror, razor, toothbrush, ventilation fan, no people, empty room, unoccupied, vertical composition, from below, dutch angle, wide shot, slightly tilted camera, low viewpoint, wall-mounted mirror, glass shelf, tile grout, steam, condensation, water droplets, windowless, fluorescent light, warm-toned dominant palette, glossy specular highlights, dramatic backlighting, strong rim lighting, soft focus, shallow depth of field, luminous atmosphere, clean linework, delicate strokes, soft cel-shading, smooth airbrushed finish, vibrant palette, The camera sits low near the floor and close to the tub's outer wall, tilted a few degrees off level so the room's vertical lines lean, looking up and slightly across the small bathroom: the whole space is empty of people, and nothing in the frame suggests a body — no silhouette in the mirror's silvered face, no shape behind the frosted glass, no towel draped as though just dropped. In the left foreground the small bathtub's rounded rim cuts diagonally across the lower corner, its enamel chipped to a dark underlayer at the near edge and a thin ring of old water staining the curve where the surface meets the wall; above it a chrome shower head juts from the tiled wall on a short angled arm, one bead of water hanging from its lowest lip and stretching into a teardrop, and a faint thread of water still running from it to the drain. The wall behind the tub is tiled in small square old tiles, glazed cream and pale ochre, grout gone grey and gritty, a scatter of tiles with hairline cracks and one missing entirely to show rough mortar; condensation sheets the upper courses and beads in the grout lines, each bead catching the light as a tiny bright point. To the right, receding with perspective, the sink stands on a slender pedestal, its porcelain rim chipped, a toothbrush lying flat across the rim with its bristles still damp and darkened, a safety razor set down beside the faucet with its head turned so the metal gleams, and above the sink a rectangular mirror hangs on a small chain, its lower edge foxed with brown spotting and one corner silvered where the backing has gone. The mirror holds only the reflection of the opposite tiled wall and the top of the shower head's arm — the room reflected back is as empty as the room itself. High on the far wall, above head height and near the ceiling corner, the ventilation fan sits in its square plastic frame, blades blurred into a soft disc by their spin, its grille furred with dust, and the faint tremor of the frame is the only motion in the still air. The light source is a single bare fluorescent tube mounted above the mirror, slightly greenish-white and warm at its ends, and it is the only light: it strikes the tops of the tub rim and the sink's edge as hard glossy highlights, throws the undersides of the shower arm and the mirror's lower lip into deep shadow, and leaves the far corner behind the tub in murky darkness; a thin caustic web from the water trembles on the tub's inner wall, and every wet surface — the enamel, the chrome, the tile glaze — returns a specular streak. The palette holds cream, ochre, tarnished chrome and a warm amber cast from the old fixtures, with the fluorescent's cool edge only where it touches the wet tile. Shallow depth of field keeps the tub rim and the hanging droplet in delicate focus while the fan and the far wall soften into a luminous haze; the air is damp, still and quietly abandoned.
