character: astra_yao 1girl, solo, astra_yao, long black hair, red eyes, white hairband, white karate gi, bare feet, dirty feet, soles, large soles, foot focus, extreme close-up on foot soles, from below, from behind, foreshortening, soles toward viewer, lying on back, legs raised, beads of sweat, sweat on skin, detailed skin texture, steam, thick steam, scent lines, wavy lines, looking at viewer, looking over shoulder, white karate gi, barefoot, toes, toe curl, soles of feet, high detail skin, sweat drop, blush, open mouth, :d. The camera sits low on the floor and looks up: the whole frame is dominated by the raised soles of a single young woman lying on her back on the pale wooden dojo floor, her legs lifted straight up and tilted toward the lens so the two broad soles fill the foreground in steep foreshortening, the near sole bigger than her head behind it. Her long black hair spreads across the boards under her shoulders, tied back from her face by a white hairband; from this low, upward view her red eyes peer down past her own knees at the viewer, chin tucked, a wide open-mouthed grin with a bead of sweat sliding off her jaw. She wears a white karate gi, the jacket gathered and loosened by the pose, its sleeves slipped back on the forearms, the hem fallen toward her hips; her hands lie flat on the floor beside her, palms down, elbows slightly bent, bearing a little of the weight so her shoulders stay lifted off the boards. The soles are the subject: large, wide, thoroughly dirty — dark grey-brown grime ground into the heel pads, the ball of each foot and the creases between the toes, a few stray flecks and grains of dust stuck to the damp skin, faint smudges crossing the arches where something has been walked through. Every line of the instep and the rim of the heel carries detailed skin texture: fine creases, the whorled ridges of the toe pads, faint shine on the dry outer edges, damp on the inner. Sweat beads stand out along her ankles, behind her knees and at her temples, catching the light in small hard points. Thick steam rises off both feet in slow curling columns that drift upward and out of the top of the frame; wavy scent lines ripple off the soles in loose parallel curves that turn and wiggle into the steam, drawn as real ridge and shadow lines that bend and distort slightly as they cross the front of the toe pads. The light comes from one high window behind and above her, dropping a bright, cool shaft onto the soles' upward faces and the tops of her feet so the grime reads crisp and the steam turns milky; her face and the floor beneath her fall into softer shadow, and long thin shadows of her calves stripe the boards. The palette is restrained — the bone white of the gi, warm bare skin and grey-brown grime, pale wood, and the cooler grey of the steam. Quiet dojo stillness with a cheeky, sweat-soaked grin.
