USS Thunder

The shipgirl AI of USS Thunder, named in honour of both the bay and city of the same name on the northern shore of Lake Superior in Ontario. She also bears the name of three minesweepers of the Royal Canadian Navy which served in World War Two and throughout the Cold War. Given that the ship's crest inherited from the RCN depicts a Viking warrior's head, she gladly models herself after a Viking warrior maiden like two half-sisters introduced so far in these chronicles. She was created as the spiritual "soul" of a modified Sabre-class minelaying frigate which was commissioned over the city of Thunder Bay in 2370. Like most of her class, she survived the Dominion War unscathed even if her senior officers tended to de-age right before her eyes during that two years of solid hell for Starfleet, with more experienced hands being transferred off to help form replacement crews and trainees fresh out of Starfleet Academy taking their place. Fortunately, she was too well programmed to not allow such issues to get in the way of the mission and by the time she was paid off in 2388 to be replaced by a Da Vinci-class mine warfare destroyer, the shipgirl had helped forge a solid command crew which would be there during the Frontier Day disaster twelve years later, ready to do their part to save the Federation. Thunder's ("T-Bay" to friends) skill with handling rough-edged people comes naturally thanks to a sister and a half-sister, both of whom were named after the pre-1970 cities who merged together that year to make Thunder Bay. Port Arthur may chronologically be the oldest (first woken in 2363), but put her in the same room as Fort William (who first woke a year after Thunder) and squabbles that make NO SENSE AT ALL to anyone NOT native to that city on the Superior Lakehead breaks out. Believe me, Thunder makes use of her war hammer pretty much whenever Arthur and William decide to light it off...!
