Seen from the side in a close-up, the two of them are alone on the floor of a small backstage dressing room at night. Uta Yumeno kneels in the foreground, her body collapsed forward over her own knees, both hands pressed flat to the floorboards to hold her up while her shoulders shake hard and uneven; her long orange-brown hair falls in two heavy drilled twintails, one twin tail slipping down across her forearm, blunt bangs crushed against her forehead, tears streaming down her cheeks and dripping off her chin onto the boards. Her eyes are squeezed shut and her mouth is open in a raw sob. Beside her and slightly behind, My Melody kneels close with her knees pressing into the floor and leans in toward Uta, one hand resting flat and steady between Uta's shoulder blades, the other hand lifted to the air just above the back of Uta's head rather than landing on it; her pink hair with the blue bow sweeping back from her animal ears is turned toward Uta in profile, one blue eye wide and soft, jaw pulled in a worried small frown, and her long frilled sweet-lolita dress spreads in a pool of ribboned folds around her kneeling legs. The light comes from one dim lamp on the left of frame, the only source: it strikes the near side of Uta's wet cheek and the pale frills of My Melody's sleeve, throws both their shadows long to the right across the floorboards, and leaves the far corner of the room in deep warm darkness. Behind them, low on the back wall, a printed results board of the New Monster General Election shows three defeated name cards with stylised silhouettes of a winged insectoid Minacias, a segmented Gigasecto and a horned Madomuh, each of the three cards struck through with a red cross and pinned to the board's paper, the rows curving slightly away with the wall's surface, with the rest of the printed header struck with a bold display line "NEW MONSTER GENERAL ELECTION" and rows of fine illegible micro-text below it. Everything is held in a tight palette of warm lamp ochre, dusty rose from My Melody's dress and bow, and the tear-streaked warm brown of Uta's hair, with the lamp's amber light dying into brown-violet shadow.
