The camera looks steeply down from above at a nude — no — at a single cat-eared woman caught mid-lean on the low concrete parapet of a stripped-back loft, her weight tipped far forward over the drop of the ledge so that the foreshortening runs from the top of her hooded head down along her reaching arm toward the lens. She sits with her hips hooked on the parapet's edge, one boot planted flat against the parapet wall below the ledge and the other boot hanging free, its sole turned up; her fingers — bare at the tips, black fingerless gloves leaving the knuckles free, nails lacquered yellow — curl around a brass coin held out between two fingers so that the coin catches the light and reads flat and round against the dark below. Her grey bob is short and close at the back with two long locks hanging down past her jaw on the near side, a scatter of fluffy animal-ear fur standing inside the cat hood's empty ear pockets, the hood itself pushed back off her head and bunched at the nape of her black leotard; a long grey cat tail hangs down off the parapet and swings loose, its underside fur flattened where it drags on the concrete. Over the black leotard she wears a thin white shirt, worn open and slipped down off one shoulder, the black thigh strap biting into the top of one bare thigh above the boot cuff. A small mole sits under one eye, a single fang shows at the corner of her lopsided grin, and her blue eyes are lit from inside — glowing faintly brighter than the room. Her head tilts down toward the viewer, chin drawn in, one eyelid lowered and the other brow arched high; the look is playful and seductive at once and the amusement in it is entirely at the viewer's expense. Far below and behind her, out of focus in a deep drop of field, several bloody piles of human bones and bodies lie scattered across the polished loft floor, ribs and long bones and crushed skulls heaped in dark wet clusters, the blood pooling and running along the floorboard seams in thin dark lines. The loft around them is minimalist — bare concrete walls, a single tall window, nothing else — and a hard cold light knifes in from behind her through that window, backlighting her so that a bright rim rides the edge of the hood, the shirt and the tail while her front falls into shadow; volumetric haze makes the beam visible as it crosses the room, the pools of blood below glint, and her cast shadow falls long and distorted across the floor toward the bones. A crisp white outline traces her silhouette against the gloom. Palette of grey concrete, charred black, cold blue-white light and one warm brass coin, the yellow nails as the only other warm note. Ominous, effortlessly stylish.
