1girl, solo, woman, long black hair, straight hair, black dress, long dress, black hat, wide-brimmed hat, holding flower, black rose, from behind, looking back, over shoulder, looking at viewer, expressionless, flat expression, elegant, standing, standing alone, centered, road, stone road, wet road, wet stone, reflections, dark grass, pine tree, tall pine trees, black trees, silhouette, overcast sky, cloudy sky, thick fog, mist, horror, gloomy, dark, dim lighting, cold colors, wide shot, full body, distance, scenery, no humans in background, bare trees
A somewhat distant wide shot from directly behind the woman, the camera low and level, so the wet stone road runs away from the lens and she is a slender dark figure planted at the exact center of it, alone. She stands with her weight settled on her left leg, right heel slightly lifted, shoulders square to the road ahead; her head is turned back over her right shoulder, chin near her collarbone, so the camera catches the pale line of her cheek and jaw in three-quarter profile and one flat, calm eye looking straight back down the road toward the viewer. Her expression is completely still and composed -- brows level, lips closed and even, no smile and no frown, elegance held in the stillness rather than in softness. Both hands are brought together in front of her waist, the black rose held by its stem in her right hand with the bloom upright and rested against her left palm, the fingers curled loosely around the stem; the wide brim of her black hat tilts with the turn of her head and shadows the upper half of her face, and a few strands of her long black hair slip forward across her turned cheek while the rest hangs straight down the back of her black dress.
Her floor-length black dress -- long sleeves, high at the throat, a hem that just clears the wet stones, no ornament anywhere -- breaks in a dark fold where her right knee pushes forward, and the hem hangs heavy and undisturbed, too wet to billow. The stone road is a rough cobbled path, every stone dark and glossy wet, its joints running with water that pools in the low spots; the road's sheen carries a long thin reflection of her silhouette and of the pale sky gap above, and the reflection breaks into fragments where the stones stand proud of the water -- the darkest, sharpest thing in the frame. On both sides of the road, black grass lies flattened and nearly colorless in the low light, and behind it the pine trunks rise in tall vertical lines, their bark and needles reading as near-solid black shapes pressing inward from left and right, closing the corridor.
The sky above the corridor's far end is a flat, heavy overcast ceiling of grey, no sun, no break, and the fog is thick enough to swallow the road twenty paces past her: the trees, the stones and the grass all lose contrast and dissolve into the same grey as the distance climbs, near trunks dark and sharp, far trunks only faint columns. The only light is a cool, sourceless grey daylight falling from the cloud cover directly overhead, so shadows sit shallow and soft under her hat brim and beneath the trees, and everything in the frame is drained to black, wet slate grey, and dead grass olive -- her black dress and hat the deepest values, the fog the lightest, no warm color admitted anywhere.
Horror, quiet dread.
