In the aftermath of passion, Jinhsi and Aemeath rest together in the moonlit ruins, their battle-worn bodies finally yielding to exhaustion and peace. Aemeath's own free arm wraps around Jinhsi's waist, holding her secure against the lingering chill of the stone chamber.
They gaze into each other's eyes from this closeness—grey meeting gold, serene and searching. No words pass between them, nor are they needed. In those depths they see reflected what they have become to one another: the one who commands dragons and the one who burned her flesh for power, now simply two women who chose to survive together. The moonlight bathes their faces in silver, catching the remaining flecks of dried blood and the softness of lips still swollen from hungry kisses.
This is not the end, but a beginning—the first moment of many where they learn that strength can also be found in vulnerability, and that the fiercest warriors are those willing to rest in another's arms.
