USS Cape Scott

Shipgirl AI of USS Cape Scott, the second specialist shipgirl dedicated to mobile repairs and search-and-rescue duties in support of a large fleet as set out in Project Fort by Port Weller Spacedocks in 2330. She is named in honour of Cape Scott, the northwestern promitory on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. In actuality, she is named in tribute to HMCS Cape Scott, which was the converted name ship of the Beachy Head-class repair ships from the Second World War; post-war, HMS Beachy Head (which was constructed in Canada) was given to the Royal Canadian Navy and renamed. Unlike HMCS Cape Breton, which perpetuated a River-class frigate which had been active in World War Two (complete with battle honours), Cape Scott was effectively a "virgin" warship with a blank honours board. She would prove to be very useful for the Royal Canadian Navy...and in a weird way, would end up doing the opposite of what her sister did: Originally meant as a static classroom ship at Halifax in Nova Scotia, she would be converted to an escort maintenance vessel and would serve until 1970 when she was paid off. She would remain alongside at CFB Halifax as the headquarters of Fleet Maintenance Group (Atlantic) until 1975 when they were moved into buildings ashore, then was scrapped two years later. The name would be revived in Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott, the Atlantic Fleet's primary ship repair and mainenance unit. The first USS Cape Scott began life as the synthetic "soul" of a modified Hauck-class tender/mobile drydock built at Port Weller Spacedocks' facilities at Queenston Station. Both the SI of USS Conestoga (Starfleet's only traditional "stone frigate" in the British Commonwealth manner, that being the official name for the Starfleet Corps of Engineers' on-site liaison unit) and USS Vestal (who was a shipgirl experienced in utility support work) were more than happy to take Cape Scott and Cape Breton under their wing for the first couple years as the two younger shipgirls worked out the kinks of their new hull. Cape Scott took on the image of a maiden of the Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw (Kwakiutl) peoples who had inhabited the northern part of Vancouver Island since time immortal. She inherited the fiery nature often attributed to redheads and would be willing to lay into ANYONE who was stupid enough to wreck equipment when it could be avoided; even the older generations of Port Weller girls got a good tongue-lashing from Cape Scott whenever they or their crews goofed up. As an aside, Cape Scott HATES being called "Scotty"; she considers that nickname used for her an insult to the "late" Captain Montgomery Scott of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 & NCC-1701-A (who went missing shortly after the commissioning of the NCC-1701-B and the "death" of Jim Kirk in 2293). Even when the elder Scott was found by the crew of USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D in 2369 (he would have his commission soon reactivated and he would be made the commanding officer of USS Conestoga shortly afterwards), the shipgirl HATED being called "Scotty". "Miss Scott" is the agreed form of address to her. Cape Scott's career progressed somewhat parallel to that of her sister. She would reside in her original hull for twenty-eight years before exchanging that for a Hauck-class tender built by Port Weller's works over Phäeton. That would only last her until 2376 when damage that had accumulated during the Dominion War finally got too much to repair and she was paid off. Next came one of the first Saavik-class ships, though Cape Scott waited six years for that; she would help the design team at S'Lek Varen Systems over Vulcan refine their construction processes when it came to that design. That hull would be lost in the Frontier Day incident in 2401, though Cape Scott and her crew got off the ship just in time. Two years later, Big Lodge Starworks prepared a modified Horizon-class science ship for support to the Corps of Engineers, which she works on to this day.
