Nesia-chan Can't Get a Job
Nesia’s Earth Journal No. 6: Strange Job Requirements I decided to look for work because I did not want to keep relying on the kind old lady for food and shelter forever. So that morning, I walked around the neighborhood and went into every place that had a hiring notice. I tried a convenience store, a café, a clothing shop, and even a hotel. At first, I felt pretty confident. In my old world, I had worked hard all the time. I could clean rooms, cook meals, sew clothes, carry heavy things, and serve guests properly. Surely I can do at least one simple job here too... right? But every place asked me strange questions. “What school did you graduate from?” “Where is your CV?” “What is your phone number?” “Do you have an identity card?” I did not understand any of it. I had never gone to school, I did not know what a CV and a phone number were, and I definitely did not have a card that proved I existed in this world. Why are the requirements here so strange? At one place, I tried my best to explain my skills properly. I told them I could ride a horse, gather medicinal herbs, and even use a sword. I thought those were useful talents. But the employer just stared at me for a moment before politely rejecting me… The first rejection only confused me. The second made me nervous. After that, every new rejection stung a little more. I do not think I am especially beautiful, but I know I am not ugly either. In my old world, a common tavern would have gladly accepted a hardworking girl like me. So why was finding a job here so hard? When I finally walked back, my feet felt heavy, and my heart felt even heavier. I still wanted to do my best. But that day, all I could think was… Maybe living in Indonesia is a lot harder than I thought…
