Longing with Intertwined Fingers - Vocaloid 神威x巡音
💜💗💜💗💜 Story 💗💜💗💜💗 The sky of the Celestial Realm was eternally clear. Soft light streamed from the depths of the distant sea of clouds. Vast layers of white clouds stretched endlessly like a boundless field of flowers, while angels returning from their missions occasionally swept through them, their wings scattering tiny points of light before they quickly disappeared along the road leading back to the gates of the Celestial Realm. Among the angels returning today, two figures were especially familiar. Kamui Gakupo and Megurine Luka. They were a pair of lovers known throughout the Celestial Realm. No one was unaware of their names, and no one was unaware of the love they shared. They accepted missions together, completed missions together, and returned to the Celestial Realm together after every mission. Sometimes, all it took was seeing the two of them walking side by side in the distance for the other angels to smile knowingly. Because they were simply too happy. So happy that they could make others feel the warmth of that happiness without even trying. Today was no different. Only this time, their mission had lasted longer than usual. The two of them had been sent to a distant region of the human world to protect a small town that had nearly lost all of its light beneath a violent storm. It had been a mission that lasted several days. Only after the last dark clouds dispersed and the morning light returned to the town did Gakupo and Luka finally complete their duty. Yet on the way back to the Celestial Realm, neither of them was in a hurry to speak. The sea of clouds was unusually quiet. Luka flew slowly, with Gakupo right beside her. Their wings occasionally drifted closer in the wind, only to separate again the next moment. It had only been a few days since they had returned to the Celestial Realm. For angels, that was hardly a long time at all. Yet they both knew that during those few days, they had missed each other terribly. Throughout the mission, they had guarded different parts of the town. Even when they could occasionally catch sight of each other from afar, they could only exchange a hurried glance to make sure the other was safe before returning to their duties. So now that they could finally walk side by side on the road home in complete safety, they at last had time to quietly look at one another. Luka secretly glanced at Gakupo. He seemed to be looking at her as well. Their eyes met in the air. For a brief moment, neither of them looked away. A gentle smile appeared on Luka's lips. “...Gakupo.” “Hmm?” There were so many things she wanted to say. She wanted to tell him how much she had missed him these past few days. She wanted to tell him that after completing every part of the mission, he was always the first person she thought of. She wanted to tell him that whenever she rested alone among the clouds at night, she could not help looking into the distance and wondering if he was thinking of her too. But when those words reached her lips, only one sentence remained. “It's nothing.” Gakupo quietly looked at her. It seemed that he knew what she wanted to say. But he did not press her. Because he was the same. “That's good, then.” “Mm.” They continued walking. After a while, Luka's hand unconsciously moved closer to Gakupo's. Her fingertips lightly brushed against the back of his hand. Just once. As if it had been accidental. But Gakupo stopped. Luka stopped with him. The next moment, he reached out his hand. Without saying a word. He simply took hers. Their fingers intertwined. A familiar gesture, more natural than anything else. Their palms rested together, their fingers gently interlaced. Luka lowered her gaze to their joined hands, and her expression gradually softened. “...It's been so long since we've done this.” “It's only been a few days.” “But it felt much longer to me.” Gakupo paused for a moment. Because he felt the same. Rather than a few days, it felt as though a very, very long time had passed. During the mission, he had thought of her countless times. Whenever he saw flowers in the human world, he thought of how much she liked flowers. Whenever he saw the sky clear, he imagined how happy she would look if she were there beside him. Even at night, whenever he closed his eyes, her image would inevitably appear in his mind. He had never spoken those feelings aloud. Not because he did not want to. He simply thought that there would always be time to tell her after they returned to the Celestial Realm. Now they had finally returned. And yet those words somehow became even harder to say. “...I felt that way too.” That was all he finally said. Luka's eyes curved into a smile. “I knew it.” They continued walking. This time, neither of them let go of the other's hand. The gates of the Celestial Realm were already visible in the distance. Other angels noticed them. Some smiled and waved. “Welcome back!” “Good work on the mission!” “You two are holding hands again!” Luka smiled a little shyly. Gakupo simply nodded. But their hands remained intertwined. That natural gesture had long since become one of the most familiar sights in the Celestial Realm. After passing through the gates, they were supposed to go their separate ways and report on the mission. Yet when they reached the fork in the road, they both stopped at the same time. Luka looked at Gakupo. Gakupo looked back at her. “...Do we have another mission tomorrow?” “Not at the moment.” “That's good.” Luka quietly let out a breath of relief. What she really wanted to say was— Then we can spend the whole day together tomorrow. What Gakupo wanted to say was— Then I want to stay with you all day tomorrow. But in the end, neither of them said it. “Get some rest tonight.” “You too.” “Good night.” “Good night, Gakupo.” At last, they let go of each other's hands. It was an ordinary farewell. Yet after turning away, they both looked back at the same time. Their eyes met once again. Luka could not help smiling. Gakupo smiled too. They were already lovers. They already knew how important they were to each other. They could say “I missed you” countless times, and it would never be too much. And yet the words that truly remained hidden in their hearts still stayed quietly unspoken. When Luka returned to her room and closed the door, she leaned against it and slowly closed her eyes. Her mind was filled with the warmth of their intertwined fingers. “...I really missed you.” She whispered it softly. On the other side, Gakupo stood alone before his window. He gazed out at the sea of clouds and remained silent for a long time. At last, he murmured to himself. “So did I.” Neither of them heard the other's voice. And yet that longing seemed to cross the entire Celestial Realm. Quietly drawing them closer to one another. Perhaps tomorrow, they would finally say it aloud. Perhaps they still would not. But at least for now, they both knew— No matter how far their missions carried them apart, once they returned to the Celestial Realm, they would intertwine their fingers once again. And all the longing they had left unspoken would remain hidden in the gaze they shared the next time they met.
