The setting is held to almost nothing: a dark floor plane at the bottom, a seamless near-black field behind her in faint warm brown, so the pumpkin's apertures are the only light source and beyond their reach the darkness is absolute. From above, the pumpkin's carved face is foreshortened into a squashed ellipse while the light from its mouth climbs upward and throws her shadow down and backward across the floor, stretched and soft-edged. Palette held to orange, black and warm gold, with the candy's red-magenta-turquoise as the single deliberate break in it. Playful Halloween mischief.
