1girl, solo, dark-skinned african girl, 16 years old, black curly hair, short tight black curls, natural hair volume, dark brown eyes, white button-down shirt, short sleeves, yellow pants, high-waisted yellow trousers, bare feet, holding spear, wooden spear with polished metal tip, spear gripped in right hand, spear butt planted on rock, standing on one leg on a rock ledge, climbing stance, leaning forward, looking back, looking down toward the valley, wide-eyed, open mouth, small grin, mountain peak background, snow-capped peak, glacier ice, afro-alpine moorland, giant groundsels, tussock grass, high altitude, wind, dust particles, from below, low angle, wide shot, golden hour, warm rim light, upward-facing surfaces, snow only on flat planes, clear sky The camera sits low, below the rock the girl stands on, tilted up so her figure overlaps the open sky and the great white summit fills the upper frame behind her shoulder. She is one girl alone on a wind-scoured rock ledge of dark volcanic stone: her right foot flat on the ledge, her left foot raised and hooked onto a higher knob of rock, knee bent and calf flexed, body leaning forward up the slope, hips carried over the right leg, the wooden spear shaft braced diagonally across her body, butt end wedged into a crack in the rock, polished metal tip angled up and back past her shoulder. Her right hand grips the shaft at chest height, knuckles blanched, thumb wrapped on the near side; her left hand is flung out low and behind her for balance, fingers spread. Her black curls lift and blow sideways off her forehead in the wind, a few strands crossing her cheek; the white shirt pulls tight across her back and shoulders, the loose hem working free of the yellow waistband, one sleeve flapping. Her head is turned back over her left shoulder, chin lifted, so her profile and one wide dark eye read against the sky; she looks down over her shoulder at the scree slope falling away beneath her, brows raised, lips parted in a small caught grin, a puff of visible breath escaping. Behind her the mountain rises in layers: wet dark rock and mossy green moorland in the midground scored by a winding trail, then a band of ochre scree, then the glacier's white and blue cornice and the summit rim on the horizon line. Giant groundsels with cabbage crowns and silver tussock grass stand bent all one way, laid flat by the same wind that drags her shirt and hair. The light comes from low behind her right shoulder, warm gold, the last of the day: it rims her curls, the spear shaft and the top edge of her shoulder in hot orange, leaves her face and the front of the white shirt in soft cool shadow, casts one long stretched shadow of her and the spear diagonally down the rock face toward the viewer, and lights only the upward-facing planes of the scree and the snow, leaving the gullies black. A fine skein of dust and grass seed streams horizontally across the frame, revealing the wind. Palette is warm yellow, white, deep black-brown and glacial blue shadow, nothing else. Quiet exhilaration.
