The light comes from high and behind-upper-left, glaring white-gold and nearly blown out, so the sun sits inside the frame's top-left corner as a hard radiant blowout with a small warm flare clearing into the sky. Consequences: she is rim lit along her jaw, her shoulder and the edge of the hat; her face is held in soft dappled light that has filtered through petals and huge leaves, so faint leaf-shaped shadow falls across her cheekbone and collar; the front of her cream blouse sits in gentle warm shade against the glare; the earth and the lower stalks are darker, sunken into warm shadow. Long flower-head shadows rake across the ground at her feet. A high summer haze softens the far rows of the field into bands of paler and paler yellow until the horizon dissolves entirely. Palette: sunflower gold, straw beige, cream, and a saturated bright blue sky, with green stalk olive as the only cool-ground note. Rich saturation, warm cast, petals catching the light like paper held to a lamp. Motion: the top of her hair lifts free from her neck, blouse fabric ripples once at the sleeve hem, hat brim flexes just perceptibly. She is not posing for anyone -- hands loose and slightly open at her sides, fingers not gripping anything, one thumb brushing the seam of her trousers. Dazzling, carefree.
