The camera is low and close, tilted a few degrees off level so the horizon of the shot runs diagonally: the framing crowds right up on the two girls, so that their shoulders, weapons and faces fill most of the frame while the forest closes in tight behind them. On the right of the frame Hoshino hangs caught: her body is already half-muffled in a thick pale-grey cocoon, silk wound in overlapping bands from her hips up across her chest, pinning her left arm to her side; her right arm is still free, fingers splayed and straining against a fresh strand of silk that a spider is drawing across her wrist. Her feet are off the ground, the cocoon slung from a cable of webbing that runs up out of frame. Her face is bloodless, drained to a waxy pale, eyes wide and irises shrunk, mouth open in a silent gasp, one sweatdrop at her temple, hair disheveled and pulled in strands against the wet silk. The Nargacuga armor's dark scaled plates, purple-black and glinting with a faint violet sheen at the edges, still show along her shoulder and hip where the silk has not yet covered them, and the gunlance hangs useless at her hip, its barrel snagged in webbing, one hand still too tangled to reach it.
On the left, closer to the lens and slightly lower in frame, Hiyori has dropped into a braced stance, weight on her back leg, front knee bent, the heavy bowgun's long extended barrel leveled up and to the right, pointing at the spider nearest Hoshino's cocoon. Both hands grip the weapon — right hand at the trigger, left supporting the foregrip — and her cheek is pressed to the stock, one eye sighting down the barrel. Her aqua side-ponytail swings back, hair flying loose from the speed of her turn, and the one visible eye is fixed hard on her target, jaw set, brows pulled down, mouth a flat tight line. The Kirin armor's white plates and gold trim catch the light along her shoulder, chest and thigh guards, and the pale blue-white trim runs bright against the gloomy green of the wood.
The clearing is walled in by the enormous spiders: one crouches directly above Hoshino on the trunk behind her, legs spread wide, another on the left mid-ground, its body the size of a person, a third in the upper background hanging head-down from a branch, and more legs in the shadows at the edges of the shot. Silk strands run from branch to branch, and from those strands hang the cocoons — a big one low and heavy on the left, a smaller one higher and grayish on the right, two more furled shapes behind, of different sizes — each dimly translucent. The light comes down from a high, filtered canopy in weak green-gold shafts, catching the wet sheen on the silk and on Hiyori's white armor and leaving the deep background dark; every surface in shadow retains a cool blue-green cast. The palette is dark and humid: moss green, deep bark brown, the violet-black of Hoshino's armor, the white-and-gold of Hiyori's, and the pale dull ivory of the silk. The silk of Hoshino's cocoon is pulled tight where it crosses her ribs, drawn drum-taut by her breath. Tense, desperate.
