Hayashi Kanami AKA Mustang

Portrait of the former Saotome Ranma, who was transformed mentally by the ponds of Zhòuquán-xiāng when s/he was initially cursed by a very clumsy and ignorant Saotome Genma. Unlike many of the others who have experienced the horrors of the Valley of the Cursed Springs, Ranma did not transform back into her/his birth form as a boy for nearly an hour; in that time, an imprint of the soul of the girl who drowned in the Niángnìquán would completely alter his/her soul to transform Ranma into a woman emotionally. On fully realizing this during the journey back to Japan and knowing how much of a misogynist his/her father was, Ranma resolved to learn all s/he could from Genma before finally striking out on his/her own. Unfortunately, s/he being "engaged" to Tendō Akane and then learning of his/her other "fiancées" such as Kuonji Ukyō and Nǚ Shānpū complicated things quite severely...never mind Ranma's long-absent mother Nodoka showing up eventually with a so-called "seppuku contract" demanding s/he be a "man above men". Fortunately for Ranma, an old friend would come back into his/her life in the form of Moroboshi Tariko, this happening sometime after her Gifting as Tuyuki. Years before, it had been Tariko who had rescued a nearly-comatose Ranma from being forced multiple times to try to learn the infamous Neko-ken berserker-inducing art; as time went on during the training journey, Genma did his best to make his child forget the meddling girl who had tried to take Ranma away to make him into an uncontrollable metahuman. Unfortunately, Tariko had a long memory (and her personal journal about her casting drive journey, The Book of Pretty Girls) to remind her of what she had once promised Ranma when chance would present itself. Even more so, the financial firm that the Moroboshi Clan controlled, Toranoseishin Finances, held a copy of the will of Ranma's late paternal grandmother Hayashi Chiaki, who contained a clause that would allow Ranma to be legally separated from Genma and Nodoka in case the child was not raised "properly". A family court judge was all too quick to decide that multiple engagements, multiple cases of larceny and other crimes and the seppuku agreement was not the "proper" way to raise a child even if said child was being moulded into a martial arts prodigy. With a way out finally, Ranma elected to become Gifted as Mustang, the Untameable One. The physically strongest of all Yizibajohei, such a person could stand toe-to-toe with the Man of Steel and the World's Mightiest Mortal in DC Comics even if Mustang didn't have Clark Kent's extrasensory abilities or Billy Batson's magical clairvoyance; then again, Ranma's decade and more being trained to use one's ki works just as well. Even better, Ranma inherited a complete invulnerability to all forms of mental and magical attack; one needs a reality warper at Tariko's power level to take someone like Mustang down. Best of all, the new incarnation of the Untameable One was meant to be a woman. Saotome Ranma was dead. Hayashi Kanami (written 林 夏菜美 in kanji) lived in his place. Once she effectively ditched all the Nerima issues, Kanami went to meet with Dean Raeburn, grandmaster of the Tensei-ryū (the old school sponsor of Musabetsu Kakutō-ryū) to be formally welcomed into the latter school, removing Happōsai's influence from her life. She would eventually move to Sunnydale in California, where she joined forces with the Scooby Gang (many of whom are Gifted themselves) to deal with the Hellmouth portal located there.
