The triangular headpiece, known as a hitaikakushi, is a classic supernatural accessory deeply rooted in Japanese folklore and frequently seen in horror anime and manga. This spectral headband is typically paired with traditional white burial kimonos, floating will-o'-wisps, pale skin, and unkempt hair. Illustrations featuring a triangular headpiece commonly place ghosts and spirits in eerie settings like moonlit graveyards, haunted houses, or abandoned shrines.

The tall woman kneels in seiza at the left of the frame, her weight settled back onto both heels, thighs angled toward the lower right of the picture so that her lap forms a shallow cradle. Across that cradle the smaller girl lies flat on her back, head resting on the exact center of the lap, face turned up and slightly toward the camera; her body runs away toward the lower right corner, one arm folded loosely across her own stomach, the other resting palm-up on the tatami just outside the woman's knee, the loose tips of her fingers touching the mat weave. The woman's kimono is pale blue with a deeper blue lining, its wide sleeves pooling in soft folds on the mat on both sides of her hips; the triangular headpiece sits level on her blue mob cap, and a few strands of her short pink hair have slipped down in front of her ear. Her upper hand is laid lightly over the girl's green hair, fingers curved around the crown, thumb resting at the temple; her other hand supports her own sleeve against her knee so the fabric does not fall across the girl's face. The girl's green hair fans out over the blue kimono fabric, the black hat tipped back off her forehead so its brim rests flat on the woman's thigh and squashes the cloth under it. Her eyes are shut, the third eye's cord loose around her shoulder; her brows sit unknitted, her mouth is softly closed and turned up at one corner, and the frilled yellow shirt has ridden up a little so the green skirt's waistband shows. The woman's chin is lowered, her pink eyes looking down the length of her own lap at the girl's face; her expression is a faint closed-lip smile, lids low, one eyebrow a hair's width higher than the other, and she is breathing slowly enough that her sleeve barely moves. Light comes in low and warm through paper shoji screens off frame to the upper left, striking the top of the woman's headpiece, the pale blue shoulder, the girl's cheek and the bright green of her hair; the shadow of the shoji lattice falls as soft grey bars across the tatami in the foreground, and the undersides of both figures sit in cool dim shadow. Palette: pale blue and pink against the green of the girl's hair and skirt and the straw yellow of the tatami, nothing else. The room behind is empty tatami and a low wall, uncluttered. A single detail: the girl's hat brim has compressed a visible dent into the blue kimono where it lies. Tender, hushed.
