Watching the Red Team's defense, Mio(みお) said quietly, "Mio's been watching Miku's passing lanes. She might be paying extra attention to us this time." Miku nodded. "Then let her guess." KAITO inbounded the ball, and it landed in Miku's hands. She dribbled forward without rushing to break through, slowing down instead to observe Rin and Len's positions. Rin quickly moved up, lowering her stance to defend. "Miku, I won't let you get past me this time!" Rin said. Miku smiled faintly. "Then I'll change direction." She faked to the right, and Rin followed immediately. But in the next instant, Miku passed the ball left instead, and Teto caught it and rushed forward. "Teto, don't let her get near the basket!" Len warned. "I know!" Len fell back quickly, but was thrown off by Teto's sudden stop. Instead of shooting, Teto passed to Mio(みお). Catching the ball, Mio(みお) saw her sister Mio closing in from the side. "Sis, you got here fast." "Because I knew you'd get the ball." "Then do you know what I'm going to do next?" Miku caught the ball and, without pausing, passed it straight to Teto. Teto sprinted down the sideline with Len close behind. Luka timed her move and stepped in to intercept, forcing Teto to slow down and pass back to Miku. The Red Team's defense tightened quickly. Gakupo watched Miku, his voice calm. "Don't let her find an opening." Rin nodded. "I've got her!" Miku dribbled forward. Rin blocked her from the front while Len guarded the side. Miku tried to cut through the middle but was boxed in by the two of them. "Miku, behind you!" MEIKO shouted. Miku turned to see Mio(みお) running up from behind. She flicked the ball back over her shoulder to her. Mio(みお) caught it and spun around, only to find Mio standing in front of her again. "Sis, again." "This time I won't make it so easy for you to pass." "Then I'll do it myself." Mio(みお) faked a shot, and Mio raised her hand to block. In the split second Mio's weight shifted, Mio(みお) quickly passed the ball toward the basket. KAITO caught it and was about to shoot when Gakupo rushed in from the side and knocked the ball away. The basketball bounced a few times on the floor and rolled toward the sideline. Players from both teams rushed after it. "Ball's still in play!" a student at the scorer's table shouted. Teto reached it first, but Rin blocked her path. She stopped short and knocked it aside. Len reached out to grab it, but the ball slipped past his fingertips and kept rolling. Mio and Miku arrived at almost the same moment. "Mio, to the right!" Luka called out. "I see it!" Mio bent down to pick up the ball, but before she could steady herself, Miku was already closing in from the side. Instead of colliding with her, Miku reached out to try to knock the ball from Mio's hands. Mio pulled the ball tight against her body. "Miku, trying to steal it?" "Of course. This is an important possession." "Then you'll have to catch me first." Mio took a step forward, preparing to move toward the basket. Miku followed immediately. Instead of driving straight, Mio faked left, then suddenly cut right. Miku saw through the move and reached out to intercept. Their hands touched the ball almost at the same instant. "Mio!" Rin shouted. "Miku, wait!" MEIKO called from the other side. Mio pulled the ball hard against her side, but Miku didn't back off. She lowered her body, and the moment the ball peeked out from under Mio's arm, she swiped at it quickly. The ball popped up into the air. Mio reacted instantly, reaching up to grab it. "Not over yet!" Miku jumped at the same moment. Both of their hands shot toward the ball as it hung in the air. Mio wanted to regain full control of it; Miku wanted to knock it toward the Blue Team's side before it fell. The ball wavered between their fingertips. "Mio, catch it!" Gakupo shouted. "Miku, to the left!" KAITO called out at the same time. Mio gritted her teeth, and her fingers finally found the side of the ball. She tried to pull it toward the basket, her body twisting half a turn in midair. Miku didn't give up either—her other hand reached in from the side and locked onto the other side of the ball. Both of them held the ball at once. For a moment, the basketball hung suspended in midair. Mio tried to pull it back toward herself; Miku pulled just as hard in the other direction. Their arms crossed in the air, the ball caught between them, with neither gaining full control. "This ball is mine!" Mio shouted. Miku stared her down. "Not decided yet!" Mio kept pulling the ball forward; Miku tried to knock it sideways. Neither of them let up, and the ball spun slightly in their grip, ready to slip free at any moment. On the sidelines, Ena couldn't help but stand up. "They're both holding the ball at the same time!" Kanade's eyes stayed fixed on the air above the court. "There's no telling whose hands it'll end up in." Mafuyu said quietly, "Neither of them is letting go." On the court, Gakupo took a step forward but didn't rush in. "Everyone, don't crash into them!" Luka warned her teammates too. "Careful! Don't push them from behind!" Rin stood under the basket, watching the ball tensely. "Who's going to get it?" Len stood beside her, eyes unmoving. "Still don't know. Get ready to receive!" Teto held her breath too. "Whoever drops it, I'll catch it!" KAITO quickly judged where it might land. "It could drift to the right—Mio(みお), watch out!" Mio(みお) moved immediately to the spot she predicted. "Got it!" Just then, Mio suddenly changed the direction of her force, trying to pull the ball toward the basket. Sensing it, Miku pulled the other way at the same instant. Both of their forces acted on the ball at once. The ball slipped from their hands and flew toward the front of the basket. Mio and Miku landed at almost the same time and immediately looked up at the ball. It spun in the air, sailing over both their heads, drifting closer to the hoop. Everyone on both teams froze. No one knew which team this ball would end up belonging to. "Is it going in?" Rin couldn't help but shout. "Watch closely!" Len warned. Gakupo looked up at the ball. "It's not over yet." Luka clenched her fists too. "This shot's outcome—still hasn't been decided." Mio stepped forward; Miku moved toward the basket at the same time. The ball neared the rim, but at the last instant drifted slightly to one side. Everyone on both teams braced to jump again.
