Because the mooncakes tonight had been made to be shared from the very beginning. ------ 日本語 月明かりは、今も静かに月兎の異世界全体を照らしていた。 先ほどまで月餅作りに忙しくしていた皆は、ついに最後の月餅を完成させた。 小さく丸い月餅が木の皿にきれいに並べられている。月や兎、金木犀など、さまざまな可愛らしい模様が描かれていて、銀色の月明かりの下では特に美しく見えた。 Mikuは目の前の月餅を見て、思わず笑顔になった。 「完成した！」 Tetoがすぐに近づいてくる。 「いろんな味がある！」 Mioは並べられた月餅を眺めた。 「兎さんたち、こんなにたくさんの餡を用意してくれたんだね。」 みおも頷く。 「蓮の実餡に、あんこ、それから金木犀味もあるね。」 一匹の兎が嬉しそうに言った。 「それに、私たちが一番好きな月兎餡もあるよ！」 Lenは一瞬固まった。 「月兎餡？」 兎は首を横に振った。 「冗談だよ。」 Rinは思わず笑った。 「兎さんも冗談を言うんだ！」 兎たちは誇らしそうに胸を張った。 「もちろん！」 皆は柔らかな草地に座り、いろいろな味の月餅を真ん中に並べた。 Mikuは月の模様が入った月餅を一つ手に取った。 「交換しながら、全部の味を食べてみようよ。」 「いいね！」 Tetoはすぐに一つ選んだ。 「私はこのあんこ味から！」 一口食べると、Tetoの目がすぐに輝いた。 「甘くて美味しい！」 Mioが笑いながら尋ねる。 「美味しい？」 「うん！」 Tetoは元気よく頷いた。 「それに、あんこの香りがすごくいい！」 みおは金木犀味の月餅を選んだ。 「これ、すごくいい香り。」 小さく一口食べると、柔らかく微笑んだ。 「金木犀の風味が控えめで、すごく心地いいね。」 Mikuも一つ食べてみる。 「本当に中秋節らしい味がするね。」 Rinは蓮の実餡の月餅を持ってLenを見る。 「Lenはどれにする？」 「蓮の実餡を食べてみたい。」 「じゃあ交換しよう。」 二人はそれぞれ月餅を一つずつ選び、交換してから同時に食べた。 Rinが笑う。 「これも美味しい！」 Lenも頷いた。 「味が優しいね。」 その近くでは、MEIKOが別の月餅を手に取った。 「これは何味？」 兎が答える。 「栗餡！」 MEIKOが一口食べると、少し目を見開いた。 「栗の香りがしっかりしてるね。」 KAITOも一つ手に取った。 「僕も食べてみよう。」 食べ終えると、彼は笑った。 「確かに美味しい。」 MEIKOが彼を見る。 「どの味が好き？」 KAITOは少し考えた。 「さっきの金木犀味かな。」 MEIKOは頷いた。 「私は栗かな。」 兎たちは皆がそれぞれの味について話しているのを聞きながら、自分たちも月餅を交換し始めた。 「これは君に！」 「僕はあっちを食べたい！」 「あんこ味、本当に美味しい！」 「金木犀味も美味しいよ！」 やがて草地には、楽しそうな声がいっぱいに広がった。 Rinは新しい月餅を手に持ち、Lenを見る。 「これで三種類目じゃない？」 Lenは自分の手元を見た。 「四種類目だと思う。」 Rinは驚いた。 「そんなに早く？」 「新しい味を見るたびに食べたがるからね。」 「いいことでしょ？」 Lenは苦笑した。 「まあ、いいことだね。」 一方、Mioは兎の模様が描かれた月餅を手に取った。 「これ、すごく可愛い。」 みおも一つ手に取る。 「兎さんたちはこういうのが特に好きみたい。」 すると、何匹かの兎がすぐにこちらへ駆け寄ってきた。 「それ、私たちの一番好きなやつ！」 Mioは笑いながら月餅を差し出した。 「一緒に食べよう。」 「ありがとう！」 兎たちは嬉しそうに月餅を受け取った。 一口、また一口と食べていき、どの兎も満足そうな顔をしている。 「美味しい！」 「今年の月餅は去年よりもっと美味しい！」 「みんなで一緒に作ったからだよ！」 別の兎も嬉しそうに言った。 「そうだよ。いつもは私たちだけで作っているけど、今年はたくさんの友達が手伝ってくれたからね。」 それを聞いて、Mikuは皆を見ながら微笑んだ。 「私たちも、月兎の異世界の友達になれたんだね。」 兎たちは次々に頷いた。 「もちろん！」 「材料を集めるのも手伝ってくれた！」 「一緒に薬を搗くことを覚えてくれた人もいるし！」 Rinがすぐに手を挙げた。 「それはLenと私！」 Lenも笑いながら付け加える。 「最初はあまり上手くできなかったけどね。」 「でも最後はすごく上手になったよ！」 Rinがそう言うと、頭の上の兎耳がぴょこんと揺れた。 それを見た皆は笑った。 少し離れた場所では、GakupoとLukaも月餅を手に、月明かりの下に座っていた。 Lukaは手元の月餅を見る。 「どの味も少しずつ違うね。」 Gakupoが頷く。 「だから、全部食べてみたくなる。」 Lukaは笑った。 「Gakupoも全部食べてみたい？」 「時間があるなら。」 「じゃあ、ゆっくり食べよう。」 二人はゆっくりと月餅を味わった。 周囲からは皆がいろいろな味を交換する声が聞こえ、その中には兎たちの楽しそうな声も混ざっていた。 月明かりが静かに草地へ降り注ぐ。 一つ、また一つと月餅が皆に分けられ、それぞれ違っていた味が、交換することで一緒に過ごした思い出へと変わっていった。 「みんなで月餅を食べるって、こんなに楽しいんだね。」 Mikuが小さな声で言った。 MEIKOが笑って頷く。 「月餅を食べるだけじゃないからね。」 KAITOは兎たちを見る。 「今日起きたことも、みんなで分かち合っているんだと思う。」 Mioも微笑んだ。 「それに、たくさんの兎さんたちとも友達になれたしね。」 「来年も来られるかな？」 Tetoが突然尋ねた。 兎たちは顔を見合わせる。 「月が昇る時間を忘れなければ、またあの扉を見つけられるかもしれないよ。」 Rinがすぐに答える。 「じゃあ、絶対に忘れない！」 Lenも頷いた。 「僕も忘れないよ。」 兎たちは嬉しそうに笑った。 「じゃあ、約束だね！」 皆は一緒に空を見上げた。 満月は今も夜空高く輝いている。 見知らぬ異世界で、偶然出会った月兎たちとさまざまな味の月餅を分かち合い、そして笑い声まで分かち合う。 兎たちも、特に嬉しそうだった。 彼らにとっても、今年の中秋節は、遠くからやって来たこの友達たちのおかげで、特別な夜になったのだ。 月明かりの下、最後の月餅も、隣にいる誰かへと分けられた。 誰も一人で食べる必要はなかった。 今夜の月餅は、最初から皆で分かち合うために作られたものだったのだから。
