Hayden Janet Kossler One of the many units of the silent service which helped cripple a nation's wartime commerce in World War Two, this is the adopted native of Portsmouth in Virginia (birthplace of her first captain), Groton in Connecticut (where she was built) and Galveston in Texas (where she was preserved as a memorial) reborn and Gifted as Hayden Kossler, the living divine spirit of the submarine USS Cavalla. Preserved as a memorial for decades on the Galveston waterfront alongside the destroyer escort USS Stewart (now TXNS Catherine Stewart), she would be damaged thanks to a bad hurricane strike on the area in 2008. And while she was subsequently restored to museum worthy status, the arrival of shipgirls in the spring of 2012 (never mind their exposure to the general public in the mid-summer of that year thanks to Luisa von Bismarck AKA DMS Bismarck) made Cavalla's and Stewart's kami restless. It got to the point where the largest ship Cavalla had sunk herself — the armoured aircraft carrier THG Shōkaku, now Gifted as Matsubara Kanako — would personally plead with President Jed Bartlet to allow them both to be reborn. It would happen on Hallowe'en day in 2012...and just in time, too; supernatural activity in the area would see Hayden and Catherine join forces with Kanako and her sister Suzue (THG Zuikaku) to deal with a chupacabra outbreak in the Galveston area. Thanks to Hayden saving the local member of the Magical Congress from one creature's attack, she was personally awarded the Magical Medal of the United States, the third-highest ranking magical-only award of valour/meritous service given by the Department of Magic. Since that time, Hayden has made her civilian home in Galveston even if she also frequents San Antonio (where the shipgirl contingent of the United States Joint Specialized Warfare Command his based) and Groton. Hayden and Kanako aren't close friends, but they do respect each other.
