Then the values of X and Y. Finally, he carefully erased the last line. X + Y = 214. The blackboard was completely clean. Yet Luka felt no sadness as she watched the numbers vanish. They had already become something far more important than chalk marks. The memory of that afternoon would stay with her. So would the promise they had made. "All finished," Gakupo said. Luka nodded.
