Today's theme was the red thread of fate. The magazine's concept was to use a series of photographs to show a meeting between two people that seemed to have been guided by destiny all along. No elaborate sets, and not many props were needed, just a red thread, an overhead angle, and two people willing to trust each other. The two invited for this shoot were Kamui Gakupo and Megurine Luka. "You two, today's main shots will be done on the floor," the photographer explained, pointing to the white backdrop laid out in the center of the studio. "Please lie down here in a moment. His answer made Luka laugh. "Then I'm the same." The photographer called the two of them into the shooting area. Luka lay down on the backdrop first, letting her long hair spread out naturally. Gakupo then lay down beside her, leaving a suitable distance between them so the photographer could arrange the thread. A crew member approached with the red thread, first tying one end gently around Gakupo's pinky, then looping the other end around Luka's pinky and tying a loose knot. The thread wasn't taut. It extended from Gakupo's pinky, fell into the gap between them, curved into a gentle arc, and finally connected to Luka's pinky. "Okay, hold still for now," the photographer said. Gakupo and Luka looked up at the same time. The photographer stood on the elevated camera platform, adjusting the focal length. "I think it might just be because you happened to be lying next to me." Gakupo laughed softly. "That's a perfectly reasonable explanation, too." The photographer heard their exchange but didn't interrupt, quietly pressing the shutter instead. Click. In this photo, Luka's smile hadn't fully faded, and Gakupo wore a faint smile as well. The red thread stretched out from between their pinkies, crossing the white backdrop, as if leaving a road in the frame whose end could not be seen. "Wonderful," the photographer said. "One more set. You two, bring your hands a little closer." Gakupo moved his hand toward Luka. Their pinkies were still joined by the thread, and as they drew near, it slackened naturally, forming a small arc. Luka glanced down. "It really feels a bit like fate is leading us." Gakupo looked at the thread too. "If fate arranged it, shouldn't we follow it?" "Where do you want to go?" "That depends on where you want to go." Luka looked at him, suddenly feeling that this line stirred her heart more than any carefully prepared script in the studio. She reached out her other hand and lightly touched the back of Gakupo's hand. "Then let's go together." Gakupo didn't hesitate, and gently interlaced his fingers with hers. Luka didn't reply, only hooked her pinky around his. The photographer, checking the photos, happened to glance up and saw the two still keeping that small promise. He said nothing. He only quietly pressed the shutter one last time. And in that photograph, there was no red thread. There were only two people who, after the shoot had ended, were still willing to hold on to each other.
