Her weight rides entirely on her back leg, knee locked, the front leg extended and turned out with the toe barely grazing the ground, and one arm sweeps down and across her body with the hand cocked back at the wrist, the kunai pinched between two fingers so the blade points down and back along her forearm; the other hand rests knife-edged at her hip on the hilt of a sheathed katana angled back past her thigh, thumb hooked over the guard. Her long black hair streams across her cheek and out behind her shoulder, lifted by the momentum of the turn, strands crossing her collarbone. The open jacket hangs off one shoulder and falls wide, its bold black and white horizontal stripes buckling and curving with the twist of her torso, and under it a bare midriff and navel are in view; the skin-tight black pants are pulled low on the hips, riding into the crease of the thigh and pulling taut across the front so the pale outline and thin waistband band of her underwear show clearly through the stretched cloth, the seam straining at the hip. She stands on a cracked concrete rooftop, loose gravel and a low parapet behind her, wind pulling at a torn banner so it snaps and bellies outward, her cast shadow thrown long and distorted across the ground toward the lower right. The single hard sun sits low and behind her left shoulder, so a rim of hot white light burns along the edge of her jaw, the blow of her hair, the stripes of the jacket and the top of the kunai while her front falls into cool shadow, and the whole sky beyond is a flat, saturated, dusty orange grading to pale turquoise at the horizon. Palette held to hot orange sky, cool shadow blue, the black and white stripe of the jacket and the dull steel grey of the blades, nothing else admitted. Bold confident and brash.
