More to See

two characters, 2boys, two devils, both smiling, devil smile, sinister grin, wide toothy smile, playing chess, sitting across from each other at a chess table, chessboard between them, chess pieces mid-game, many scattered chess pieces, glowing aura, cyan aura, blue energy radiating, visible power aura, sparks, floating chess pieces, dark colored horns, pointed ears, long black tail, black hair, white hair, red eyes, gold eyes, formal dark clothing, open collar, long black coat, from side, profile, dutch angle, low angle, from below, table in foreground, dramatic lighting, rim light, dark background, candelabra, night, intense atmosphere The shot is a low dutch-angle three-quarter view from the side, tilted a few degrees off level, so the chess table cuts a sharp diagonal across the lower third of the frame and the two devils sit facing each other across it, close enough that their forearms almost meet over the board. On the left of the table, in profile turned toward the board, sits the first devil: a tall, gaunt figure with matte-black hair swept back from a widow's peak, two ridged dark horns curving back over his skull, long pointed ears, and narrow red eyes under heavy lids. He leans in with his weight on his right hip and right forearm planted on the table edge, his left hand hovering above a black knight, fingertips pinched around it, caught mid-move. His head is tipped forward, chin down, and the wide devil's smile on his face is all crescent — lips pulled back over a row of small sharp teeth, cheek creased, one brow arched high while the other stays flat. His black coat hangs open at the throat with nothing at the collar, and his long black tail drops off the back of his chair and coils once around the front leg, tip flicking. Across the board, the second devil sits with his torso turned three-quarters toward the viewer but his head angled sideways at his opponent: white hair falling in a blunt fringe over gold eyes, horns shorter and paler, ears as pointed, the same wide smile but lazier — one corner dragged higher, one eye narrower than the other. He is not looking at the board at all; his gaze is fixed on the other devil's face, waiting for him to commit the move. His right hand rests flat on the table beside a captured white pawn, fingers loosely spread; his left forearm crosses his stomach, cuff brushing the board's near edge. Between them, the chessboard is fully populated — a dense mid-game tangle of black and white pieces, several already knocked onto their sides along the board's rim, two captured black pawns lined up in front of the left devil, one white bishop standing far off in the corner square. Three chess pieces are lifted clear of the board and floating a few centimetres above it, held aloft by the aura. The aura is the light source: a cold cyan glow of inner energy boiling up off both devils' shoulders and backs, streaming upward and outward in wisps and shedding bright sparks that drift down over the board. It rim-lights their horns, ears and hair with a blue-white edge and throws cyan highlights across the glossy black and white squares of the board and the polished pieces; their faces stay warmly lit only by a cluster of candles in a low brass candelabra at the table's right corner. Beyond that pool of light the room is not described at all — pure near-black void, so the two figures, the table and the aura are the entire world of the image. Hair and coat-tails are pulled slightly toward the aura's updraft; the floating pieces' shadows on the board sit a touch off from directly beneath them. Palette is restricted to black, white, cyan and candle-amber. Cool, theatrical menace.
