More to See

1boy, solo, adult male, handsome, elf ears, pointed ears, short brown hair, green tunic, long sleeves, brown pants, black leather gloves, black leather boots, sheathed sword at hip, sword sheathed, smiling, closed-mouth smile, looking at viewer, standing, hand on hilt, side view, profile, full body, from side, side-on composition, outdoor, forest, trees, daylight, dappled light, Sherman Firefly tank, military vehicle, olive drab tank, tank barrel, world war 2 tank, tank treads, military, realistic, detailed A true side-on view, camera at hip height and locked perpendicular to the tank's long axis, the tank filling the frame from the rear deck at the left edge to the muzzle brake poking past the right edge, its long 17-pounder barrel running horizontally across the upper third of the frame and out of frame. The man stands in profile in the foreground on the near side of the tank, facing the right edge of the frame, his right shoulder and cheek toward the camera, left arm hanging with the leather-gloved fingers loosely closed, right gloved hand resting flat on the pommel of the sword sheathed at his left hip so the scabbard hangs backward behind his thigh. His weight is on his right leg with the left knee slightly bent and the left boot's toe turned out on the leaf litter, his chin lifted a few degrees, the smile a quiet closed-lip curve at one corner with the eye creased in warmth, gaze carried out past the frame to the right rather than into the lens. The pointed tips of his ears break the line of his short brown hair, the hair's fringe lifted slightly where the tank's hull blocks the wind. The tank's olive-drab hull slabs read behind him at chest height, its rusty, mud-caked treads and bogie wheels dark along the bottom, one tow cable looped on the hull side; his black boots and the shadow under them sit on the same forest floor. Behind and above both, dense trunks of pine and beech recede in three depth layers, the nearest trunk crossing in front of the tank's far end, the canopy thinning overhead so daylight comes down in broken shafts. That light strikes the tank's upper plate and the man's right cheek and shoulder, throwing him into half-shadow from the hull and leaving the undersides of the vehicle and the forest floor in cool green-brown dark. Palette: olive drab, cold forest green, warm brown, black leather, with only the man's face and the gloved hands drawing highlight. On the tank's sloped side plate, stenciled white hull numbers read "T212451" and a small worn white star sits above them, both distorted by the plate's angle and flaking at the edges. A single bead of water runs down the tank's vertical side plate and stops at a rivet, the one witness to the morning's rain, and no second one follows. Quiet, sunlit, at ease.
