5girls, 2boys, otokonoko, group shot, military uniform, dark olive military tunic, gold buttons, epaulettes, aiguillette, short shorts, pleated miniskirt, black leather knee boots, bare thighs, standing at attention, wide shot, from below, full body, dutch angle, outdoor, parade ground, overcast daylight, cool desaturated palette, crisp fabric texture, confident atmosphere A wide low-angle group shot from below, tilted a few degrees on a dutch angle, of five figures lined up abreast on a paved parade ground, the camera at hip height and close enough that the front row foreshortens slightly while the outer two read full-length; the five stand shoulder to shoulder in one straight rank, feet planted apart on the wet grey concrete, each angled a quarter turn toward the center so the line reads as a shallow chevron. On the left half stand the two feminine boys in identical dark olive military tunics closed high at the collar, four gold buttons down the chest, gold-trimmed shoulder boards and a braided cord looping the left shoulder; the tunics fall only to the hip, and below them short shorts in the same dark olive sit close on the thigh, leaving the legs bare from mid-thigh down into black leather knee boots laced to just under the knee, the leather creased at the ankle and glossy where the grey sky reflects. The taller boy on the far left has his weight on his back heel, one hand hooked in his tunic's hem and the other arm hanging loose, chin lifted, a faint closed-lip smile and one brow arched as he looks out past the camera to the left; the shorter boy beside him stands with feet turned slightly inward, both hands clasped behind his back, shoulders drawn up, biting the inside of his cheek with a flat sideways glance at the taller boy's shoulder. On the right half stand the three women in matching dark olive military jackets with gold buttons and epaulettes, each jacket cut to the waist over a pleated mini skirt that ends high on the thigh, the same black leather knee boots buttoned to the knee, the pleats holding crisp knife edges. The tallest woman in the middle of the trio stands square with her hands behind her back and her chin level, eyes fixed forward; the woman to her right has her hip cocked, one boot crossed lightly in front of the other, holding a single sheet of paper down at her side; the woman on the far right has turned her head in profile toward the boys and is grinning with her tongue just behind her teeth, one arm raised in a half-salute. Near-continuous overcast light comes from a broad grey sky above, soft and directionless on the faces, bouncing up off the wet pavement to catch the undersides of chins and the inner edges of the boots, with only a shallow pooled shadow under each pair of feet and a thin dark reflection of the boots stretching down the concrete. Fine rain has stopped minutes earlier: the pavement is dark and mirror-slick in patches, and every upward-facing surface -- shoulder boards, the crowns of caps, the tops of the boots -- carries a diffuse sheen, while the vertical faces and the skirt pleats stay matte. The palette holds to dark olive, gold, black leather and wet grey, nothing else admitted: olive in the uniforms, gold only in the buttons, cords and buckles, black in the boots and shadows, grey in sky and ground, and pale bare skin on the legs as the only light note. Fabrics stay crisp and heavy -- wool with a faint nap, leather with a hard specular roll along the shin -- and the composition leaves a wide band of empty wet concrete and blank grey sky above the rank, horizon line cutting just below the shoulders of the tallest. Cool, poised, faintly playful.
