Eureka and Renton: A Painful Promise

This scene from Eureka Seven has always stayed with me—the raw emotion between Eureka and Renton as she desperately tries to help him is just unforgettable. I tried to capture that intense mix of love and worry that defines their journey together. If this piece moved you, please leave a like and follow for more anime art, and let me know your thoughts in the comments!

character: eureka_(eureka_seven), renton_thurston, nirvash, copyright: eureka_seven, eureka_seven_(series) 2girls, eureka_(eureka_seven), renton_thurston, sitting, beach, sand, leaning against vehicle, nirvash, mecha, vehicle mode, from above, dutch angle, from side, eureka has green hair, aqua hair, short hair, purple eyes, closed eyes, sleeping, sweat, white sleeveless two-tone dress, open jacket, raglan sleeves, arm warmers, renton has brown hair, short hair, unconscious, passed out, closed eyes, sweat, jacket, raglan sleeves, sleeveless, bandages around arm, blood, red-stained bandages, bloodied bandage, leaning on another, slumped, alarmed expression, worried, open mouth, reaching out, head tilt, tender, quiet dread Camera looks down from above at a slight dutch tilt across the beach: Eureka and Renton sit side by side in the foreground on rippled sand, both with their backs and shoulders braced against the flat armored flank of a huge white-and-teal transformable mecha lying low in its vehicle mode, its long chassis running behind them from left to right and receding into the upper-left background. Renton sits on the left, slumped sideways so his left shoulder and the side of his head press into the mecha's hull; his brown-haired head lolls forward, chin near his chest, eyes shut, mouth slack, a faint sheen of sweat on his temple and throat, his left leg folded flat on the sand and his right knee drawn up so his right arm hangs over it — that forearm wrapped in thick bandages, soaked dark and glossy with fresh red, the red creeping into the bandage's weave and a thin drip running down to the sand where a darker patch spreads. His other hand lies open and palm-up on the sand by his hip. Eureka sits close on his right, on a white two-tone dress with a sleeveless bodice and long raglan sleeves, an open jacket over it, thick knit arm warmers pushed up her forearms; her short aqua-green hair hangs around her face, her head tipped toward Renton and down, sweat beading along her hairline and one drop sliding past her cheek, her mouth open and panting, brows drawn up and in, her left hand catching Renton's bloodied forearm just above the bandage and her right hand hovering just short of his face, fingers spread. Her gaze is fixed on the red on his arm; his eyes are closed and give nothing back. Behind them the mecha is inanimate — its hull cool in shadow, a few plates catching a low warm rim of light along their top edges and upper-facing sand ridges brightened while the troughs between ripples stay cool blue. Overcast late-afternoon sun comes low from the right, laying long soft shadows from both bodies toward the left and leaving the cavity between them and the hull in blue shade; the vast empty sand and pale sky flatten out above and beyond, generous negative space above their heads. Palette: muted sand ochre, cold teal-white hull, Eureka's aqua-green hair and white dress, and the single hard red of the bandage. Quiet dread.
