Two young women sit under the futon with their legs hidden beneath it, facing each other across one corner of the table, knees tented under the orange cloth. On the near left, a short blonde-haired girl with red eyes and a red ribbon tied in her hair wears a kimono in a warm cafe palette, her obi cinched at the waist, sleeves rolled back from her wrists; she leans forward on one hip with her elbow propped on the kotatsu top, a peeled mikan in one hand, a segment pinched between her fingers halfway to her mouth, the other hand cupping a second mikan against the futon edge. Across from her on the right, a long black-haired girl with purple eyes wears a kimono of the same cafe style, hair gathered back so it falls over one shoulder and pools on the tatami behind her hip; she sits with her weight on one hip and one hand flat on the tabletop, the other turning a half-peeled mikan, its rind coiled in a spiral beside her. Between them the tabletop holds a small ceramic bowl piled with whole mikan, a few loose peels, and two teacups, one steaming. Their faces are turned toward each other in relaxed, pleasure-warmed smiles, eyes softened with contentment, one of them mid-laugh with lips parted, the other with a faint closed-lip smile and a tilt of the head; both look at the other's face, sharing the talk. A large rounded speech bubble floats above the blonde girl's head with its tail pointing to her, and inside it the lettering reads "なかなかこたつから出れませんねー" — hand-lettered manga-style text curved slightly along the bubble's inner edge. The kotatsu futon and the mikan share the same orange family: the quilt a deeper burnt orange, the fruit a brighter peel orange, their tones bleeding into each other wherever a mikan rests against the cloth, so the two read as one warm mass of color while the girls' kimono and the pale tatami keep the rest of the palette muted. A single warm pendant lamp hangs low overhead just out of frame above, casting a soft pool of amber light down across the tabletop and the tops of their shoulders and hair, while the tatami beyond the lamp's reach falls into a soft warm dimness; only the lamp lights the scene. Thin steam curls off the teacup and the mikan peels glisten slightly where the lamplight catches them. A quiet weekday-evening hush, cozy and content.
