Shot from above at a slight dutch tilt, close on a small demon girl who leans forward over a carved pumpkin, her weight tipped onto her right hip and one knee drawn up so her pleated skirt flares at the hem. Her chin tucks down toward the viewer, the open eye wide with a sly glint while the other lid is sealed shut in a wink, and one corner of her mouth pulls up around a short open grin with a hint of tongue. Two tiny black horns, no longer than a thumbnail, rise from the crown of her head just behind the fringe, their tips catching a thin rim of light; her hair falls forward past her cheeks from the lean and swings against her jaw. In her left hand, held up at chest height beside her cheek, is a lollipop on a white stick -- a flat disc of candy swirled in concentric bands of red, magenta and turquoise, glossy, one wet highlight sliding across the dome. Her fingers curl around the stick with the thumb pressed flat, and the candy is angled so the swirl reads as a spiral face toward the camera.
Her long thin tail emerges from the small of her back, drops down, and coils in two full loops around the pumpkin's waist, tightening under the ribs of the gourd and hooking its pointed tip up over the carved lid; the tail's skin is smooth and dark red, and it flattens slightly where it presses into the pumpkin's orange rind, leaving a shallow line of compression in the shell. The pumpkin itself sits in the lower third of the frame: its carved triangle eyes and jagged mouth glow from a candle inside, so that warm light spills onto the underside of her chin, the front of her bodice, the candy disc and the coil of the tail closest to the apertures, while everything turned away goes deep amber-bronze. Her cropped bodice of black velvet takes the glow as a soft sheen with the red lace trim at the neckline brightening to a hot orange-red; below the pleated skirt the long black stockings absorb the light into velvet-dark, and the red Mary Janes catch a small specular kiss on their toes.
The setting is held to almost nothing: a dark floor plane at the bottom, a seamless near-black field behind her in faint warm brown, so the pumpkin's apertures are the only light source and beyond their reach the darkness is absolute. From above, the pumpkin's carved face is foreshortened into a squashed ellipse while the light from its mouth climbs upward and throws her shadow down and backward across the floor, stretched and soft-edged. Palette held to orange, black and warm gold, with the candy's red-magenta-turquoise as the single deliberate break in it. Playful Halloween mischief.
