2girls, convenience store, glass door refrigerator, girl inside refrigerator, double v sign, sitting on floor, crouching, holding smartphone, recording, phone screen, from side, dutch angle, full body, shoulder-length hair, chestnut hair, yellow oversized hoodie, white pleated miniskirt, long black hair, low ponytail, pale blue denim overall dress, white t-shirt, white sneakers, open mouth, grin, ^ ^, looking at viewer, looking at phone, fluorescent lighting, glass reflections, night
Dutch-tilted side view, camera low near the floor and canted about twelve degrees, so the convenience store aisle runs as a receding diagonal from lower left to upper right. On the right, the glass-door refrigerator bank dominates: a tall steel-framed case of four doors, its interior lit cold and bright, rows of bottled drinks and cartons ranked on wire shelves behind the glass. Inside the third door from the left, wedged among the shelves in a gap she has cleared for herself, a girl with shoulder-length chestnut hair sits folded in, knees drawn up against the dairy rack, back pressed to the rear wall of the case so the chilled air lifts the fine stray strands of her hair. She wears an oversized bright yellow hoodie whose sleeves swallow her wrists and a white pleated miniskirt bunched over her crossed legs; both hands are up at chest height, elbows tucked, two fingers of each hand flung wide in a double v sign, and she grins straight through the glass at the lens, one eye squeezed shut, mouth open on a laugh, a faint fog of her breath blooming and fading on the inside of the pane in front of her mouth. Condensation beads the outside of the door, and the fluorescent interior light throws her reflection faintly onto the inner glass.
On the floor at the lower left, in the foreground, a girl with long raven-black hair in a low ponytail crouches with her weight sunk onto her heels and one knee angled out for balance, the hem of a pale blue denim overall dress riding over her thigh, white sneakers planted flat on the pale grey tile. She leans her torso back and tips the smartphone up in both hands, screen toward the refrigerator, elbows braced against her ribs for steadiness; her chin is lifted, her gaze fixed on the glowing rectangle of the screen where the small lit image of the yellow hoodie and the two v signs is framed, and the corner of her mouth pulls up in a private half-smile. Her ponytail falls forward over her shoulder. Between them, on the floor, a basket and a toppled row of price tags catch the overhead light; the phone's own faint screen glow touches the undersides of her fingers and the tip of her nose.
The refrigerator interior is the only strong light in the aisle, a cold blue-white spilling out through the glass in a long trapezoid across the tiles, catching the condensation, the steel door handles and the edges of the snack shelving that recedes into dimmer, warmer shadow at the back of the store; the ceiling fluorescents above are weaker and cooler, and the darkness gathers at the top of the frame and behind the shelves. Palette: cold refrigerator white and steel grey, the hot saturated yellow of the hoodie as the single loudest note, pale blue denim, and the muted cream of the tile. Every reflection on the glass sits slightly darker and softer than the thing it reflects. Playful, late-night convenience-store mischief.
