1girl, solo, black hair, bob cut, dark red jersey tracksuit, tracksuit top and bottom, padded hanten jacket over jersey, sitting on engawa, veranda, thatched-roof house, mountain village, holding teacup in both hands, yunomi, drinking tea, steam, senbei, rice crackers on a small plate beside her, persimmon tree, garden, autumn, from side, seated, knees drawn up, relaxed, half-closed eyes, light smile, looking at cup, warm afternoon light, cute anime style, A girl sits side-on to the frame on the wooden edge of an engawa, her black bob hanging straight to her jaw with the ends curving slightly inward, one strand lifted by a slow breeze. She wears a dark enji-crimson jersey tracksuit, top and trousers, the fabric soft and slightly loose, and over it a padded hanten jacket with a thick collar band, its wadded panels creasing at the elbows where her arms bend; the hanten hangs open, its hem pooling around her hips on the plank. She sits with her weight rolled onto her right hip, right leg folded under her, left knee drawn up with the bare foot planted flat on the veranda edge and toes curled over the wood; her spine is relaxed into a soft slouch that brings her chin slightly forward. Both hands wrap the warm yunomi — right hand cupping the body, left fingers supporting the base, thumb at the rim — and she has just lifted it to her lips mid-sip, eyes half-closed and lowered onto the cup, one brow faintly raised in contentment, a small closed-mouth smile at the corner. Thin steam rises off the tea and drifts sideways in the same breeze that lifts her hair; where the steam crosses the shadow line it catches the light and thins out. Beside her right hip, at the plank's inner edge, a small round plate of senbei sits stacked slightly askew, one cracker leaning against the others, its glaze catching a hard little highlight. Behind her the house's deep thatched roof overhangs, its straw eave a heavy shadowed band broken only where afternoon sun combs through the individual stalks, and the shoji behind her is pushed back into darkness. Beyond the veranda the garden drops away: a persimmon tree stands in the midground with dark branches bare except for clustered orange fruit weighting the twigs downward, a couple of persimmons already split and pecked, and further back the mountain slope rises in tiers of cedar that fade into haze. Autumn grass and a low stone step separate the veranda from the garden soil. The sun comes low from the left of frame, warm and amber, striking the side of her face, the hanten's shoulder, the rim of the cup and the tops of the persimmons, while the far side of her body and the inside of the eave fall into cool blue-brown shadow; a long soft shadow of the eave lies across the veranda planks behind her, and her own shadow spills onto the boards in front of her feet. Palette holds to enji crimson, black hair, warm wood ochre, straw tan and persimmon orange against the cold greens of the mountain, with nothing else admitted. Her fingers leave faint compressed dents in the hanten's padded cuff where they grip the cup. Quiet, warm, unhurried.
