tasked_genie, collar, cuffs, mystical, arabic inspiration, Solo, ,tasked_genie, collar, cuffs, mystical, arabic inspiration, ,Herdsman Genie As their name suggests, the Herdsmen Genies are genies tasked with looking over herds of livestock - typically camels, goats, sheep, cattle and horses, but the concept could easily be adapted for any kind of livestock. Similarly to the Harim Servant Genies, these genies bond with their herd animals first and foremost, placing their success above all other things, including property laws and the will of their ostensible master, should he order them to move their precious herd into dangerous territory or forbid them access to richer grazing lands. These traits make these genies of somewhat dubious use to all but the most powerful or amoral of masters, and often earn them bitter enmities from mortal herdsmen, who are very keenly aware of the fact that these genies see them as just another pest to be driven away from "their" grazing lands. Herdsman genies are short and wiry, with very quick hands and heavy brows. Their skin is dark and wrinkled from years of exposure to the sun and wind, whilst their hair is dark as jet and falls in loose curls (though the sun soon bleaches it to a reddish-brown in those who do not wear head coverings). It must also be admitted that these genies stink quite badly, forever shrouded by the twin odors of the animals they spend all their time amongst and the vaguely rancid smell that is a byproduct of their diet - animal blood and various forms of fermented milk, cheeses, curds and yogurts. It's rare to see multiple herdsmen genies under the service of a single master, but they gravitate towards tribal status in order to maintain truly vast herds. Outside of their expertise at caring for livestock, the biggest claim to fame of these genie-kin is their speed and their love of sports that play on speed, skill at handling livestock, or both. Racing is the fixation of these genies, and contests are often held within and among groups of herdsman tasked genies to determine the fastest runner - often spiced up by stampeding bulls, camels or goats after the runners! Camel and horse races are also common, and sports played mounted are often tumultuous all-day affairs with complex rules and scoring systems. Whilst young female herdsman genies take part in foot races, they prefer roping, branding, shearing, and trick riding contests to mounted team sports. Wagering and haggling are also favored activities of the males of the species. Because their charges are often attacked by raiders or natural predators, herdsman genies are among the more combat-skilled of the Tasked Genies. They are adept at wielding short composite bows, spears and short swords, with some also turning their lassoes upon humanoid captives. They are excellent mounted archers, being able to launch arrows from a steed at full gallop without penalty, and also have the ability to cast Phantom Steed, Dust Devil, Remove Fear and Flame Brand once per day each. Their tactics revolve around keeping their opponents away from their herds and the slower members of their groups. If that is unsuccessful they may, in desperation, attempt to stampede the herd into their opponents.
