💜💗💜💗💜 Story 💗💜💗💜💗 Secrets of the Night Garden A faint sound drifted from deep within the underground cavern. The two of them, who had been standing by the lake examining that ribbon of purple light, stopped in their tracks at the same moment. "Gakupo…" Luka lowered her voice. "Mm." Gakupo had heard it too. This time, the sound wasn't coming from deep within the rock, but from the direction they had entered from. Faintly, footsteps seemed audible too. And more than one person's. Luka's eyes widened. "Someone's come in?" "Likely." Gakupo glanced back over his shoulder. "Perhaps an attendant noticed we were missing, or someone realized the stone door had been opened." "Then what should we do?" "Leave this place first." Luka nodded. The two of them didn't linger, quickly retracing the path they had come by. Past the crystal clusters beside the underground lake, over the blue and violet veins of ore, up the narrow stone stairway. The sounds behind them grew clearer. Luka couldn't help glancing back. "Are they chasing after us?" "Don't look back." Gakupo said in a low voice. "Let's get out first, worry about the rest later." "Okay." Their pace quickened. At last, the ancient stone door came into view. Gakupo reached out and pushed it open. The night air of the palace grounds greeted them at once. A cool evening breeze brushed their faces, and the atmosphere — so different from the cavern below — made Luka draw in a deep breath. The two of them slipped out quickly through the stone door. Gakupo turned back to let the vines fall back into place, then gently swung the stone door shut. The next moment, they made their way out through a small side door beside the round chamber. After passing through a dim corridor, an open, spacious area suddenly appeared ahead. It was the palace's central garden. The two of them walked all the way to the fountain at the garden's center before finally coming to a stop. Luka was breathing slightly hard. She glanced back the way they had come. The corridor was completely silent. No footsteps. No approaching light. No sign of anyone at all. Gakupo, too, watched for a moment. "It seems no one caught up with us." Only then did Luka finally begin to relax. "Thank goodness…" She let out a soft breath. "I really thought we were going to get caught." Gakupo couldn't help but laugh. "Weren't you quite bold just a moment ago?" "That was because I didn't know anyone was coming yet." Luka glanced at him. "Now that I know someone was chasing us, of course I'm nervous." Gakupo nodded slightly. "Fair enough." The two of them finally settled into stillness. Only now did they truly notice where they were. The palace garden looked entirely different from how it appeared by day. Moonlight fell through the tall, arching canopies of the trees, spilling over the neatly trimmed lawns and flowerbeds. The flowers lining the paths swayed gently in the night breeze. The statue at the center of the fountain was outlined softly in moonlight, thin streams of water falling from above with a clear, quiet sound. There was none of the noise of the ball around them anymore. No chatter of nobles. Only the night breeze, the sound of water, and the warm light spilling from the palace windows in the distance. Luka slowly walked closer to the fountain. "I never realized…" She spoke softly. Gakupo looked at her. "What is it?" Luka didn't answer right away. She simply gazed at the garden before her. After a moment, she turned around. "I never imagined the palace garden could be this beautiful at night, too." Her voice was very soft. Unlike the excitement she'd shown discovering the crystals in the cavern earlier, her tone now carried a quiet stillness. Gakupo looked at her. "You've never come here at night before?" Luka shook her head. "Rarely." She gazed into the distance. "The garden is beautiful in the daytime, the way I usually see it, but at night it feels completely different." "Mm." "Once the moonlight falls over it, even the flowers seem to change." She spoke slowly. "Even the fountain feels like a different one entirely." Gakupo looked at the water's surface. Silvery moonlight shimmered gently with the ripples. "I rarely come here at this hour myself." "Really?" "Really." Luka looked a little surprised. "So today, in a way, we discovered a new place together too." Gakupo looked at her. "It would seem so." Luka suddenly laughed softly. "We really did discover so many things tonight." "The underground cavern after the ball." "Mm." "The natural crystals." "Mm." "The blue and violet ores." "And the underground lake." Luka counted them off, one by one. "And in the end, we nearly got caught." Gakupo laughed. "That part, we don't need to remember specifically." "But I thought it was fun." "Being chased counts as fun?" "We weren't caught in the end, so now I think it's fun." She laughed at herself as she said it. The night breeze blew past. Luka's long hair stirred gently. She suddenly grew quiet. Perhaps because of the running earlier, her chest still carried a faint, quickened heartbeat. She lifted her eyes, looking at Gakupo standing before her. A moment later, she gently reached out her hand. Her soft palm came to rest slowly against Gakupo's chest. Gakupo paused slightly, caught off guard. But he didn't move away. Through the formal court attire, Luka could feel his steady heartbeat. Thump. Thump. In the quiet garden, the sound seemed unusually clear. Luka's gaze softened. "We were running so fast just now." Gakupo looked down at her hand resting on his chest. "I'm fine." "Really?" "Mm." "But I can still feel your heart beating." Luka said softly. Gakupo was quiet for a moment. "Your heart is beating fast too." Luka paused slightly. Only then did she realize that her own heartbeat hadn't fully settled either. "Maybe it's because we ran too fast just now." "Maybe." Neither of them spoke further. Moonlight fell quietly between them. Luka's hand still rested gently on his chest. She didn't withdraw it right away. And Gakupo simply stood there quietly. After a good while, Luka finally looked around at their surroundings. "If we hadn't been discovered just now…" "Mm?" "We might still be down there in that cavern." Gakupo nodded. "Very likely." "And we'd have kept going deeper and deeper." "Until the whole palace found out." Luka couldn't help but laugh. "Then tonight, we'd definitely have become the two strangest people in the whole palace." Gakupo laughed too. "At the very least, we'd be the two who came back to their rooms latest." Luka looked up. "So what now?" "Now?" "Should we head back?" Gakupo looked out at the moonlit garden. "If you'd still like to stay a little longer…" He paused. "I can stay with you." Luka paused slightly, caught off guard. Then a gentle smile spread across her face. "Then let's stay a little longer." Her hand remained gently resting on Gakupo's chest. The two of them stood by the palace fountain, neither in any hurry to leave. Tonight, they had discovered a sleeping crystal world beneath the earth, and after fleeing it, had stumbled upon another beautiful world that belonged only to the night. And in that moment, the palace garden lay quiet, as though it had been kept, just for the two of them. Luka no pudo evitar mirar hacia atrás. —¿Nos están siguiendo? —No mires atrás. Solo entonces Luka comenzó a relajarse poco a poco. —Menos mal… Dejó escapar un suave suspiro. —Pensé que nos atraparían. Gakupo no pudo evitar reír. Gakupo rio. —Esa parte no hace falta recordarla especialmente. Luka no pudo evitar reír.
