The camera sits low and slightly to her right, tilted a few degrees off level, so the girl in the left third of a tall 9:16 frame reads as a figure looking down at the tank rather than a figure in a room: she is seen in three-quarter profile from her right side, head turned to her right and slightly down, chin level, both eyes open and fixed past the glass at the moving shape inside it, her yellow irises catching one small red pinpoint from the tank. She sits on a black basalt ledge that runs in from the left edge of frame, one hip and the back of her left thigh loaded on the stone, right leg hanging down with the boot heel not quite touching the floor, left knee drawn up with the boot sole braced flat on the ledge edge; her free right hand rests loosely over that raised knee, fingers slack. Her left arm comes across her lap and the long-barreled antique revolver sits in that grip, butt in her palm, barrel lying level and pointing left out of frame, the trigger guard clear of her thumb, the muzzle end and the whole of the long barrel fully visible against the dark leather of her thigh. A long metallic chain runs out of the butt of the grip, slides over the stone edge beside her hip and hangs in a slack curve down the ledge face, its lowest link swinging slightly forward of the vertical. Her black tactical leather outfit is cut close at the shoulder and waist, matte panels broken by silver zippers running down the front of the jacket and along the outside of each thigh, straps crossing her chest and a wide strap around her upper left arm, all buckle hardware reading as brushed steel; short pale platinum blonde hair is pushed back off her forehead and falls in blunt strands to her jaw, one lock moving slightly forward over her cheekbone, the rest caught by the still air. Behind her and filling the right two thirds of the frame, the massive underground aquarium tank rises past the top edge of the image, its thick glass holding a wall of near-black water; the giant red shark crosses the tank beyond her right shoulder, its head toward the left, seen through the glass as a huge dark red mass with glowing crimson lines along its flank, gill slits and the ridge of its back, the far side of the tank falling into total blackness. The tank is the only light source: a faint eerie crimson glow bleeds forward through the glass, rimming her hair, shoulder, the edge of her jaw and the curve of the gun barrel from behind, while her face, chest and lap stay in dim cool shadow with no second light anywhere, and a faint red reflection of her back and the ledge lies on the inner face of the glass. The palette holds to black, charcoal, pale platinum, silver and one crimson, nothing else admitted. Tiny bubbles and a faint silt drift in the water behind the glass give the only movement in an otherwise silent frame. Quiet, cold, effortlessly dangerous.
