The Seleucid Empire (312–63 BC) was one of the largest Hellenistic kingdoms established after the death of Alexander the Great. Founded by Seleucus I Nicator, it stretched from Asia Minor and Syria to Mesopotamia and parts of Iran and Central Asia. Combining Greek and Near Eastern traditions, the empire became a major center of trade, culture, and political power. Despite internal conflicts and external pressures, the Seleucids played a crucial role in spreading Hellenistic civilization across the ancient Near East.
