The Spire of Twilight Souls

Gideon climbed the endless spiral stairs to the highest parapet, escaping the suffocating silence of the empty courthouse below. He found her lounging against the cold stone balustrade, bathed in the silver-black light of the eclipsed moon. She looked neither like a monster from the Pit nor a servant of the Heavens. The golden halo of Celestia still crowned her brow, pierced through by the horns of Baator. As she raised the glowing Soul Gem between her black claws, the smoldering hem of her dress drifted lazily in the midnight breeze, blending with the chimney smoke of the city below. "They think the day brings truth, Gideon," she said softly, turning her golden eyes toward him with a knowing smile. "They don't understand. The light only blinds them to the shadows they cast. It is only in the dark... that we see things as they truly are."
