The shot is a wide, slightly dutch-tilted side view of a low wooden apology stage inside a large hall, the floorboards running diagonally across the frame from lower left to upper right. On the stage, left of center and lit from above by a single hanging work lamp, Yowane Haku and Kagamine Len stand side by side facing stage-right, both caught at the bottom of a deep formal bow: Haku's back is a long flat line from hips to shoulders, her very long grey hair sliding forward off her shoulders and hanging free in a straight curtain that swings past her knees, the striped hair bow near her low ponytail flopping forward with it, her single ahoge bending last; her grey shirt is pulled taut across her bowed back, bare shoulders exposed to the lamp, her hands pressed flat together in front of her chest and her purple necktie hanging straight down away from her body, the very tip of it brushing the boards. Len bows beside her a half-beat shallower, his short blonde hair falling forward over his lowered face so only the tips of his blue eyes are visible under the fringe, both hands braced on his thighs just above the hem of his white long-sleeved shirt, his shorts creased at the hip where he folds; the lamp's cone catches the two bowed backs and drops their long shadows forward across the stage toward the audience seats. Down in the lower right foreground, on two wooden chairs placed a step below the stage, the two twin-tailed boys sit and watch: both are small, with blonde twintails tied high and swinging separately as they lean, the left boy sitting forward with elbows on knees and chin propped on both fists, the right boy slumped back with arms folded and one leg crossed, tails draped over the chair back; both pairs of eyes are fixed on the two bowed figures up on the stage, the left boy's mouth open in a small satisfied smirk, the right boy's brow furrowed as he judges it. The hall around them is packed with Halloween props — fat orange pumpkins heaped in clusters along the stage apron and stacked in the aisles, several carved into grinning jack-o'-lanterns whose candlelight glows up from below on the nearest ones, and skeletons everywhere: a full hanging skeleton strung from a rope above the stage right, a seated skeleton propped in a chair in the back rows, a heap of loose skulls and rib bones spilled across a side table, one skeleton arm draped over the chair back beside the right boy. The hanging lamp is the dominant warm amber source, its light pooling on the bowed backs and the pumpkin faces while the back of the hall falls into deep brown shadow with only faint candle pinpricks; the palette is pumpkin orange, bone white, aged wood brown and dim amber, the cool grey of Haku's hair the one cool note. The bellies of the pumpkins catch a soft highlight only on their upper surfaces, the candle flames inside the carved ones brightening the undersides of their own lids. Halloween-comic, quietly ceremonial.
