Story chapter 27: A World That Wasn't Her's
Haruka stood quietly beside the small barred window of her cell, gazing through the narrow opening at the unfamiliar world beyond. Cool air occasionally slipped between the iron bars, brushing against her face. After the suffocating heat of the cell, she welcomed every passing breeze. For several moments, she simply stared outside. Her thoughts drifted back to everything that had happened. Being suddenly transported from her comfortable life... Waking up in a strange wilderness... Discovering that she had nothing with her except the clothes she was wearing... Finding the medieval village... The suspicious villagers... The knights surrounding her... And finally, being arrested and brought here. Haruka lowered her gaze. “None of this makes any sense…” She glanced down at herself. Her white athletic crop top and blue shorts looked completely out of place in this stone prison. Compared with the medieval clothing she had seen outside, she might as well have come from another world. Then she remembered something. She actually had. Haruka slowly exhaled. “So this really is another world…” Saying the words aloud made the situation feel even more real. There were no familiar streets outside. No cars. No electricity. No modern buildings. Instead, there were stone walls, wooden houses, knights in armor, and villagers dressed in clothes that seemed to belong in a history book. She rested her forehead lightly against the cool stone beside the window. “I really did get transported somewhere else…” Her expression became increasingly troubled. “And I thought I was imagining all of this.” A faint, nervous laugh escaped her. “I'm supposed to be a queen here…” She paused. “…and I'm sitting in a dungeon.” Haruka sighed heavily. Despite everything, she knew she couldn't simply pretend this was a strange dream anymore. Whatever had happened to her, this medieval world was real. She looked through the bars once more. For the first time, instead of hoping to wake up in her old life, Haruka quietly accepted the frightening truth. She was in another world. And somehow, she was going to have to survive it.
