In the center sits the kindly grandfather, portrayed in rounded chibi proportions with neat snow-white hair, a cropped white beard, crinkling smiling eyes, a straw boater hat, and a cream linen shirt with suspenders; his left hand rests warm tea in a ceramic cup while his right hand rests affectionately on the back of a plump tan Shiba Inu dog leaning against his hip. Arranged harmoniously around the perimeter and across the fabric, each zodiac creature enjoys the feast: a tiny brown rat balances on its hind legs atop the handle of a wicker basket, nibbling a miniature toasted rice cracker; a sturdy miniature ox with rounded horns lies peacefully on the grass chewing a stem of clover; a soft-striped orange tiger lounges lazily on its side, paw curled near a platter of sweet dango; an upright white rabbit with pink-lined ears nibbles daintily on a cut carrot slice; a slender pastel-cyan eastern dragon with cloud-fluff whiskers coils smoothly along the mat's curved edge, resting its chin on a soft cushion; a glossy pale-green snake loops loosely around the base of a ceramic teapot; a chestnut pony-like horse folds its legs neatly at the blanket's corner, nudging an apple; an ultra-fluffy white sheep sits curled with happy crescent eyes; a clever brown monkey peels a small mandarin orange with both hands; a colourful red-crested rooster stands proudly balanced on the lid of a stacked wooden bento box; and a round little wild boar with tiny tusks snuffles eagerly at a dish of rolled tamagoyaki. Warm mid-morning sunlight filters through a flowering tree above, casting intricate leaf-dappled shadows that deform realistically across the folded ripples and grid lines of the gingham cloth. The atmosphere is rendered in delicate clean lineart with a luminous pastel palette of meadow greens, buttercup yellows, sky blues, and rosy accents. Cheerful, heartwarming.
