The light outside the window gradually softened, and the classroom was filled only with the teacher’s voice. Luka wasn’t really listening. Sometimes she glanced out the window, sometimes she looked down at her notebook. But in her mind, the same thought kept returning. After school. The rooftop. The moment the bell rang, the classroom instantly became lively. Chairs scraped against the floor, bags were lifted, and students began heading toward the door. Luka slowly packed her books. Her movements were a little slower than usual, as if she were waiting for something. When she stepped out into the hallway, it was already filled with the sound of students passing by. As she approached the stairs, a familiar figure appeared ahead of her. Gakupo. It seemed he had just come out of another classroom. Both of them slowed their steps at the same moment. “…School’s over.” Gakupo spoke first. His tone sounded as if he were stating something completely ordinary. “Yeah.” Luka nodded softly. They began walking slowly down the hallway together. Neither of them mentioned the rooftop. “Today seems… kind of noisy.” Gakupo said. He glanced toward the other side of the corridor, where a group of students were laughing loudly. Luka smiled slightly. “Well, it is Valentine’s Day.” Gakupo nodded. Silence settled between them again. Their pace was slow, almost as if they were trying to stretch time just a little longer. After a moment, Gakupo suddenly asked, “…Did you get any chocolates today?” His tone sounded casual, as if it were just a random question. Luka blinked. Then she nodded slightly. “A few.” She glanced down at the floor. “But… just giri chocolates.” Gakupo scratched the back of his neck. “Same here.” He paused, then added a little awkwardly, “A couple of classmates tried to give me some.” “But I told them I’d only take giri.” Luka looked up at him. “So you actually turned some down?” Gakupo gave an embarrassed smile. “Yeah…” “Otherwise it would’ve felt a little strange.” Their eyes met for a brief moment. Then both of them quickly looked away. Neither of them mentioned the small box inside Luka’s bag. Or the reason Gakupo had refused the other chocolates. But somehow, some things didn’t need to be said. At the end of the hallway, the door leading to the staircase stood quietly. They slowed to a stop. The air between them suddenly felt still. After a moment, Gakupo spoke softly. “…Um.” Luka looked up. Gakupo glanced toward the stairs. “We…” He paused, as if searching for the right words. Then said a little awkwardly, “…should probably go up now.” Luka didn’t say anything. She simply nodded. Her fingers tightened slightly around the strap of her bag. Together, they began walking toward the staircase. And at the top of those stairs, the door leading to the rooftop was quietly waiting for them.
