1girl, solo, black hair, long hair, low ponytail, hair tied back, dark eyes, light smile, closed mouth, looking at viewer, walking, mid-stride, kendo uniform, white dougi, wide sleeves, black hakama pants, pleated hakama, bare foot, barefoot, kendo armor, dou, chest protector, tare, waist guard, holding shinai, one shinai, bamboo sword, holding weapon in one hand, doujou, wooden training hall, wooden floor, full body, from side, from below, dutch angle, watercolor_(medium), paper_texture, warm daylight, nostalgic The camera sits low and canted a few degrees off level, close to the polished floorboards, so the girl reads tall as she steps across the frame from left to right in three-quarter view, her body angled toward the lens while her face turns fully to it. Her weight is on her leading left foot, heel down and toes spread flat on the boards, the right foot lifted just behind with the sole visible and the toes still curled from the push-off; the black pleated hakama swings with the stride and its hem lifts clear of both ankles. Her right hand grips the wrapped leather of the single bamboo shinai at hip height, the blade angled down and forward across her body, its tip crossing in front of the lower edge of the frame, and her left arm hangs loose with the wide white dougi sleeve falling open away from the wrist. The dou sits strapped over the white cotton dougi across her chest, lacquered plates catching a hard highlight along their upper edge, and the tare hangs in overlapping panels around her waist over the top of the hakama, the lowest panel swinging slightly out of step with the cloth beneath it. Her black hair is gathered into a low ponytail at the nape, swinging behind her shoulder, a few loose strands lifted at her temple. Her eyes meet the viewer directly, lids relaxed, the corners of her mouth turned up in a light closed-lipped smile, one brow a touch higher than the other. Behind her the doujou opens up: a long wooden training hall with a raised floor of joined boards, a row of dark timber pillars receding on the right, white shoji panels along the left wall, and a high slatted window throwing warm bands of daylight across the floor. The light comes in low from the upper left, striping the boards and laying bright rectangles across the front of her dougi and the side of her face, while her shadow and the shinai's thin shadow stretch long to the right across the grain. Dust hangs and turns slowly in the light bands. Palette: the white of the dougi, the flat black of the hakama, the warm honey brown of the floorboards and pillars, the grey-white of the shoji paper, and the tan of the bamboo shinai — nothing else admitted. Held to loose watercolor linework with translucent washes bleeding a little past the edges of the floor stripes and the pillar shadows, paper grain visible in the pale wall areas. Quiet, sunlit, unhurried.
